A Delightful Conversation

There are few things in this world that are more wonderful than having a good conversation with a close friend. Sharing our thoughts, feelings, and prayers with a close confidant can be a precious reminder that we are all wired for intimate communion with our fellow man.

But there is still one thing that is even more fulfilling to the human soul and that is our private conversations with our Heavenly Father. Brother Lawrence summarized this thought well when he said: “There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful than that of a continual conversation with God.”1

I know in my own life that talking to God is first, an incredible privilege. Imagine, that we as His children can come to the Lord anytime we desire and share our innermost thoughts and concerns with Him. And the exciting thing about this conversation is that God is always interested in and attentive to what is on our minds. Second, when we delight in the Lord something really awesome takes place. (Psalm 37:4) tells us: “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” God promises that when we take pleasure in our conversation with Him, He will give us the true desires of our heart. In reality what happens is that His desires become our desires and there is nothing more wonderful than being on the same page with Jesus. And third, when we converse with the Lord and make our meeting the most important part of our day, we can make the promise of (Psalm 16:11) a reality in our lives. This amazing verse is well worth memorizing: “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

Let’s close by taking a moment to see what this verse is really saying. First, close communion with Jesus allows us to learn what His wonderful will and direction for our life is. And rest assured the path that He wants us to travel on will be the adventure of a lifetime. Second, there can be nothing sweeter than spending time in the very presence of our Savior for as the verse shares this is where fullness of joy dwells. And third, when we are in mutual communion with the Lord, we can enjoy the endless pleasures that can only be experienced when we spend quality time getting lost in His presence.

My friends, why not start your day and end your day with getting alone with Jesus. Read His Word, ask Him questions, submit to His will, and just delight in being surrounded by His presence. I guarantee this quiet time alone with the Lord will become the highlight of your day. And if you don’t think God also cherishes this special time alone with you then read how Max Lucado puts it: “If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it. If he had a wallet, your photo would be in it. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning. Whenever you want to talk, he’ll listen. He can live anywhere in the universe, and he chose your heart. And the Christmas gift he sent you in Bethlehem? Face it, friend. He’s crazy about you.”2
