On our journey through time we are accompanied by a host of different people. We and our family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances, and even strangers make up this wonderful mosaic called life. But for the Christian one other person makes our journey, with Him, through life a delightful experience, and that is of course Jesus Christ.
I love how Billy Graham talks about this journey: “Every journey has a starting point . . . and it has an end. God meant for [life] to be filled with joy and purpose. He invites us to . . . take the rest of our journey with Him.”1
Imagine the Creator of the universe, Jesus Christ, extends this amazing invitation to journey with Him through life, with the potential to experience great joy, peace, and meaning through both the good times and trials of life. Not only that but He extends His iron-clad promise to always provide for our needs, to guide us even during our most difficult times, and provides us with the ultimate privilege to worship Him and glorify His name.
And if this weren’t enough, Jesus tells us, that while life’s physical journey has an end our eternal journey does not. Living eternally with Jesus is the most wonderful invitation in the universe, and therefore, as a child of God this incredible journey need never end!
I must admit that sometimes life throws us a curveball, but when it does I try my best to focus on the eternal promises of God and follow the wonderful advice from (Colossians 3:1-2): “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” In addition, during the trying times of life, may I also challenge you to meditate on two of the most comforting verses in all of Scripture – (Psalm 139:17-18): “How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you.”
What an invitation! What an eternal journey! What a Savior! Christian, before time began Jesus had you on His heart. And when time ends, He will take us into eternity with Him, where our joy will never end!
