Hello. My name is Curt Blattman. I grew up and have spent my whole life living in New York City. I am 70 years old and am married to the love of my life, Meiying. I have one daughter, Desirae, who is 39 years old and lives and works in New Jersey.
I grew up in a Jewish home but was not very religious. In fact after a very short time in Hebrew School I told my dad I didn’t want to go anymore and dropped out. It didn’t take very long, but by the time I was about 15 years old I realized that I didn’t even believe in God. At 18 years old I enrolled at Princeton University and spent my entire four years there as an atheist. I didn’t believe there was a God, let alone, did I believe in Jesus. In fact in my four years at Princeton I only heard about Jesus once when I attended a coffee house gathering. Needless to say my Bible knowledge was just about zero.
Have you ever watched or played the TV game show Jeopardy? Well I have. And I was very good at it. However, back in 1981 the only thing I knew about the Bible was every now and then it was a category on Jeopardy and I hated that, because I never got any of the questions on the Bible right. As a matter of fact I was so ignorant about the Bible I didn’t even know the difference between Jesus and Moses.
Today, almost 40 years later I have read my Bible from cover to cover and over and over and over again! Why this radical change of heart? Have I lost my mind? Have I found a crutch to lean on? Or just maybe have I discovered my friends that you hold in your possession today the most amazing, influential and transformational book ever written – the Bible.
Well you see back around 1980 I started on an intense quest to find out what the purpose of life was. I was doing great to the outside observer. I had a great job, a great education and a great future. But inside I felt empty. I thought I could find what I was looking for in reading the great thinkers of the past. Well I read over 25 books in about a year on all kinds of subjects and after all that reading I had more questions about what my purpose in life was than before.
But everything began to change for me the day my friend Mike, who I met at New York University, where I was attending, pursuing my MBA in Finance, invited me to attend his church in Staten Island. I had never been to a Christian church before but I was open-minded and decided to go. It was a Friday night service and I remembered that after the service a guy came up to me and started to share the gospel message about Jesus. I remember that I wasn’t impressed at all. Later that evening I went back to Mike’s apartment and he gave me a copy of the New Testament and told me to read it. Well, I loved to read and I read the entire New Testament in about a week. It said things I had never heard before about sin and how it was sin that separated me from God. I learned that faith in Jesus was the only way to be reconciled to God. It is obvious to me now, but not then, that the Holy Spirit was working on my heart. I really got interested in knowing more about Christianity and bought my own entire Bible, read about 10 books on Christianity, and six months later on October 12, 1981 gave my heart to Jesus.
Professionally I have worked as a Vice President of Finance for 26 years at JP Morgan Chase. I retired from that first career and worked for 11 years as a counselor for the Bowery Mission; working with homeless men. And just this past March 2020, I retired from this career and started a third career as a Christian Apologist; sharing the genius of the Bible through speaking at churches and colleges.
Along the way on my Christian journey I have written two books. One is an apologetic book called, The Challenge, and another is a novel on abortion called, Children of the Womb; both are available on Amazon.
I, also at age 64 (you are never too old to learn or go to school) received my master’s degree in Christian Apologetics from Biola University in California. In addition to being a traveling Christian Apologist I have decided to launch this website.
About the Website:
My website, Bible Apologetics, consists of short daily devotionals designed to encourage the Christian and challenge the skeptic on why the Bible should not only be read, but believed to help all of us experience peace and joy as we travel on this journey called life. Each devotion will show you why we can have confidence in our Bible as God’s Word as well as encourage our soul with fresh manna each day.
I pray that you will be blessed through each devotion. And remember that Jesus loves you and that you are special!
