Atheism on Trial

Atheists are a rare breed because they think we Christians have thrown away our minds to believe in an invisible God. Yet, as I hope to show from the following quotations, it is the atheist that has lost his mind to believe in naturalism and her twin sister evolution.1

Looking at the doctrine of Darwinism, which undergirded my atheism for so many years, it didn’t take me long to conclude that it was simply too far-fetched to be credible. I realized that if I were to embrace Darwinism and its underlying premise of naturalism, I would have to believe that: 1. Nothing produces everything 2. Non-life produces life 3. Randomness produces fine-tuning 4. Chaos produces information 5. Unconsciousness produces consciousness 6. Non-reason produces reason….The central pillars of evolutionary theory quickly rotted away when exposed to scrutiny. – Lee Strobel

“I can see how it might be possible for a man to look down upon earth and be an atheist, but I cannot conceive how he could look up into the heavens and say that there is no God.” – Abraham Lincoln

“While Western atheists turn from belief in God because a tsunami in another part of the world caused great suffering, many broken-hearted survivors of that same tsunami found faith in God. This is one of the great paradoxes of suffering. Those who don’t suffer much think suffering should keep people from God, while many who suffer a great deal turn to God, not from him.” – Randy Alcorn

“The chief reason people do not know God is not because He hides from them but because they hide from Him.” – John Stott

“It always amuses me that atheists often argue for the existence of extra-terrestrial intelligence beyond earth. Yet they are only too eager to denounce the possibility that we already have a vast, intelligent being out there: God.” – John Lennox

“Despite the horrors the Canaanites were committing, the new atheists complain that God was immoral for stopping them. Yet on nearly every college campus I visit, an atheist declares, “If there is a good God, He would intervene to stop evil in the world.” Well, here is a case where God does intervene, and the atheists are complaining about it!” – Frank Turek

“Atheists say, ‘Why doesn’t God just appear to us in a public setting and prove to the world He exists?’ You mean like the time God came to the Earth in the person of Jesus, raised the dead, healed cripples, and opened the eyes of the blind, only to then be dragged away and nailed to a cross? My friend, God has already appeared publicly to humans. God knows that appearing to you publicly wouldn’t change your heart. He knows that He’s already provided enough evidence for His existence for those who truly want to know Him.” – Charlie Campbell

“While the new atheists complain about the evil done by religious people, the same atheists are suspiciously silent about the evil done by their fellow atheists. If we’re looking at raw numbers, the impact of evil done by atheists in just a few decades of the twentieth century dwarfs anything done by theists in the last 500 years. Yet the new atheists say little about it…Over just a few decades, Stalin, Hitler, and Mao together murdered as many as 100 million people. By contrast, over a 500 year period, the Crusades, the Inquisition, and witch burnings together were responsible for about 200,000 deaths. That’s far less than 1 percent of the atheist totals. (Don’t get me wrong-it’s still terrible. But it’s nothing like the havoc imposed by unbelievers.)” – Frank Turek

“I believe it takes far more faith to be an atheist than to believe in God. Atheists believe that everything that exists (the entire universe with its billions of stars and planets) came from nothing and by nothing. Nobody x Nothing = Everything. That takes a lot of faith!” – Charlie Campbell

“As Christians we accept one big miracle: God, and everything else makes sense. An atheist denies God and has to have a miracle for every other thing.” – John MacArthur

“To be an atheist you must have infinite knowledge in order to know absolutely that there is no God. But to have infinite knowledge, you would have to be God yourself. It’s hard to be God yourself and an atheist at the same time!” – Ron Carlson and Ed Decker

“[Richard] Dawkins and his cohorts are always demanding evidence and asserting that there is no evidence for God. After all, we can’t touch, see, hear, smell, or taste God, so why believe He exists? But then they ask us to believe in multiple universes that we can’t touch, see, hear, smell, or taste either.” – Frank Turek
