As Christians we are the most blessed people on the planet. And if we follow the songwriter advice when he proclaims, “Count your many blessings, name them one by one,” I believe, when we add them all up, we will be totally amazed. For example, we have peace even during the storms of life, joy even when circumstances turn negative, the privilege to worship the Creator of the universe, great meaning knowing we are here for a divine purpose, the incredible knowledge that are sins are forgiven, and the certainty of eternal life with Jesus! But as awesome as these blessings are, there is one blessing that Christians sometime forget. Warren Wiersbe shares just what this blessing is when he states: “God doesn’t bless us just to make us happy; He blesses us to make us a blessing.”1
Just as Jesus supplies us with this treasure trove of blessings as I shared above, He wants us to be His hands and feet here on earth to be able to share these blessings with others, who before they come to Christ, are incredibly blessing poor. While yes, it is true many non-believers have material blessings, such as a big bank account, a new home and car, and perhaps a good family, yet they desperately lack the spiritual and mental blessings that everyone really wants in life – such as, peace, joy, meaning, and eternal life.
And that is where we come in. Our job is to live our lives as living testimonies of what living for Christ really encompasses. Our testimony when it reflects the Christlike values we preach, combined with our prayers for the lost, and sharing the gospel message, are the most powerful ways I know of to be a blessing to others. For you see, we live in a world where most people are hopelessly searching for real blessings but all in the wrong places. But praise God we, as Christians, are so loaded with blessings that when we share the gospel, we are truly imparting the greatest blessing of all to those lost souls around us – the chance to know Jesus and experience the rich bundle of blessings that come to those who are part of the family of God.
Our God is so good, however, that the way we become a blessing to others, by sharing the gospel, is in reality one of the greatest blessings we can ever experience. For you see, when we share Christ we bring joy to the heart of Jesus, put a smile on our Savior’s face, and in turn we accumulate great joy, knowing we are doing the work of the Lord. And to top this off, when a soul comes to Christ through our testimony and the message of salvation, the blessing of joy we receive is literally off the charts.
So, to sum up, sharing the gospel provides a three-fold blessing. One, the person we share Jesus with may come to Christ and that’s an awesome blessing to that individual. Two, we receive the blessing of great joy knowing that we are doing what we are created to do, by sharing the gospel. And three, God is pleased and blessed to see one of His children doing His will by sharing the message of salvation. And that my friends is a whole lot of blessings!
