Have you ever wondered when you receive a blessing what you should do with it? Oswald Chambers had some wonderful advice on what to do with your blessings: “Worship is giving God the best that He has given you. Be careful what you do with the best you have. Whenever you get a blessing from God, give it back to Him as a love gift. Take time to meditate before God and offer the blessing back to Him in a deliberate act of worship. If you hoard a thing for yourself, it will turn into spiritual dry rot, as the manna did when it was hoarded. God will never let you hold a spiritual thing for yourself; it has to be given back to Him that He may make it a blessing to others.”1
There are many ways we can give a blessing back to God. We can give Him thanks for filling our cup to overflowing. We can praise Him for allowing us to be the recipient of His gracious gift. Or in the words of Oswald Chambers, we can give the blessing back to Him as a love gift. And we can use it to advance His kingdom by asking the Lord how can I use the blessing to bless others. In all of these examples we are performing acts of worship to the Lord, which praise God, He will often turn our worship into further blessings that we in turn can use to advance His purposes on earth and thereby give Him glory!
You see, one of the foundational principles in the economy of God is this: “…It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35). Giving back our blessings to God (in the form of thanksgiving, praise, and worship) and others (either financially or sharing our time) sets us up to be wonderful channels of blessings that will always get our heavenly Father to smile at us. And when we give our blessings back to God and others we get to experience great joy and even more – the approval of the Lord! Not only that but when we give back there is a multiplier effect, in that God will often meet more of your needs, and shower you with more blessings so you can continuously be His channel of blessings to others.
My friends, what a joyful way to live – giving back to God and others from the blessings we receive from the Lord – and watching Jesus be glorified in the process! One final point – sharing our blessings with God and others is guaranteed to yield eternal blessings in heaven. So, don’t be a hoarder of your blessings, be a dispenser. And as you do watch how you will be accruing eternal compounding on your giving!
