In today’s part-two of this devotion I would like to share five verses that I call the overcomer verses. They are all found in the book of Revelation and refer to the future blessings that all Christians can expect to receive when they get to heaven.
(Revelation 2:7)
“…To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.” If you remember the tree of life was in the Garden of Eden and those who ate from it would never die. After Adam and Eve sinned the tree of life disappeared from Scripture but praise God, we see that it is back in play in the Paradise of God. And we have the great privilege to eat from it and live forever!
(Revelation 3:5)
“He who overcomes shall thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father; and before His angels.” Being clothed in white garments signifies purity and in God’s eyes we are now pure and holy. And once we die our names will never be erased from God’s special book in which He records the names of all Christians who have eternal life.
(Revelation 3:12)
“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.” As a Christian we will enjoy an unshakable and eternally secure place in the presence of God. We will also enjoy eternal citizenship in the capital city of heaven – the new Jerusalem. And as far as our getting a new name it will simply be out of this world!
(Revelation 3:21)
“He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” Imagine being able to sit with Jesus on His throne! Granted this seems like figurative language but it clearly denotes sharing the privilege and authority that Christ enjoys as we reign with Him.
(Revelation 21:7)
“He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he shall be My son.” As joint heirs with Christ, we shall indeed inherit the spiritual fullness of the new creation.
My friends, when we get to the new Jerusalem our future blessings will be so amazing that no matter how difficult a life, we may have had to live on earth, it will pale in comparison to this treasure trove of eternal blessings. I think the Apostle Paul said it best when he proclaimed: “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” (Romans 8:18).
