In one of the most incredible sections in the Bible the Apostle Paul tells us that we are co-heirs with Christ! (Romans 8:14-17) proclaims: “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”
According to the website gotquestions.org: “The term heirs of God emphasizes our relationship to God the Father. As His children, we have ‘an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade . . . kept in heaven’ (1 Peter 1:4). The Greek term translated ‘heirs’ in Romans 8:17 refers to ‘those who receive their allotted possession by right of sonship.’ In other words, because God has made us His children (see John 1:12), we have full rights to receive His inheritance. We are His beneficiaries (see Matthew 25:34; Galatians 3:29; Colossians 1:12; 3:24).”1
As a co-heir with Christ, it is true that we will have to share in some of the sufferings of Jesus now, but we will also share in His glory later and for the rest of eternity! And since we know that Jesus has been “appointed heir of all things,” (Hebrews 1:2), we as God’s children, and co-heirs with Christ will also share in all that belongs to Jesus. This idea that we will inherit and share with Jesus in all of His riches and glory is echoed again in (Revelation 21:7), where we read: “He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.”
Another name for an overcomer in (Revelation 21:7) is a Christian or a co-heir with Christ. And as we read the book of Revelation we get a sneak peek at some of the things we, as co-heirs with Christ, will inherit when we reach heaven.
Just read the following verses and be prepared to get excited:
“…To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.” (Revelation 2:7)
“He who overcomes shall thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father; and before His angels.” (Revelation 3:5)
“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.” (Revelation 3:12)
“He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” (Revelation 3:21)
My friends as co-heirs with Christ eternity awaits us and so does a treasure trove of unimaginable blessings!
