Did you ever realize that you were created to delight in the Lord? I really like the way Sam Storms put it: “You weren’t created for boredom or burnout or bondage to sexual lust or greed or ambition but for the incomparable pleasure and matchless joy that knowing Jesus alone can bring. Only then, in Him, will you encounter the life-changing, thirst-quenching, soul-satisfying delight that God, for His glory, created you to experience.”1
(Psalm 37:4) tells us: “Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.” I love this verse because it tells me that when I delight in the Lord, God gives me the true and holy desires of my heart. Since we are given a new heart at salvation, we can now experience true joy and delight when we turn our hearts and minds to Jesus. Sadly, for those who do not know the Lord, their old sinful hearts prevent them from experiencing all the wonderful treasures that are found in Jesus. But for the Christian, they are free to rejoice always because they can enter into the most awesome relationship in the universe – deep and intimate communion with Jesus!
No wonder Sam Storms calls this a “soul-satisfying delight,” because the delight we get from intimacy with Jesus goes right down to our very souls. And this delight need ever end. You may wonder what are some of the things we can delight in. Well, for starters we can delight that our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, which assures us that we have eternal life! We can delight in the fact that even if our bodies are not functioning properly as we age, we know with certainty that we will get a glorified body when we meet our Savior. We can also delight and rejoice that Jesus loves us so much that He died on the cross, when we were yet sinners, so we could now have eternal fellowship with Him.
And, if this were not convincing enough to show you just how special you are to God, and why delighting in Jesus should be the constant state of our heart, mind, and soul, consider the following: You are created in God’s image, a masterpiece of His creative genius. (Genesis 1:27). You are a treasured possession to Jesus. (Deuteronomy 14:2). In Christ you are on the pathway to having maximum meaning, joy, and pleasures. (Psalm 16:11). God has a myriad of precious thoughts toward you. (Psalm 139:17-18). In Christ, Jesus is your one true God and He is always with you to strengthen, help, and uphold you. (Isaiah 41:10). God is not only your heavenly “Abba” Father but you are a joint heir with Christ. (Romans 8:16-17). In addition, the Holy Spirit lives inside of you making you a temple of God. (1 Corinthians 3:16). And finally, in Christ, you are chosen, royal, holy, and special to God. (1 Peter 2:9). My friends let’s face it, God is plain “crazy about you!”
