God’s Time Zones

We are all familiar with times zones. For example, if you live in New York you are in the Eastern time zone. If you live in California you live in the Pacific time zone. So, if it is 9AM in New York it would be 6AM in California.

But did you know that God also inhabits different time zones. He lives in the past, the present, and the future. And the most amazing thing is that He lives in all three of these time dimensions simultaneously!

Let’s take a brief look at some of the amazing time markers of God.

First, His existence transcends time. You see God doesn’t need time to exist. He created time for us – not for Him. For we read: “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” (Psalm 90:2). Scripture teaches us that God exists from everlasting to everlasting which basically means He has no beginning nor has no end. Or in other words He existed before He established the concept of time and will still exist after the concept of time vanishes.

Second, God exists amazingly in all three time dimensions of past, present, and future simultaneously.  If you can’t grasp this concept, don’t worry you are not meant to, for we as finite beings will never understand what we read in (Deuteronomy 29:29): “The secret things belong to the Lord our God…”

Third, God knows everything about you such as your date of birth, your date of death, and everything in between, before you were even born. (Psalm 139:16) shares this thought beautifully: “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Fourth, God planned to adopt you into His family from eternity past or in other words before time began. While we know from (Genesis 1:1): “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth,” we also know from (Ephesians 1:4) that even before there was a beginning you were on God’s mind for we read: “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight…” In other words, before you were born, before you were conceived in your mother’s womb, before the creation of the universe, and before time was put into place, you existed in God’s mind as a chosen vessel and a co-heir with Christ!

And fifth, not only does God know your past, not only does He live inside of you in the present, but He promises all those who call on Jesus for salvation, an incredibly wonderful future. Just read the book of Revelation and see how amazing a future our Lord Jesus has planned for you. Heaven, our future home, is where we will live in our glorified bodies and reign with Jesus for all of eternity!

I pray that our brief journey through time may continue to keep you in awe at how awesome a God we serve!
