At the beginning of the book of Jeremiah we see this fascinating comment by God about the prophet Jeremiah: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5). While most Christians believe that life begins at conception in this verse we see that God knows us even before we are conceived in our mother’s womb!
Not only that but before we were born God knew us so intimately that He kept a separate book on each one of us with the details of our lives. This is wonderfully stated in (Psalm 139:16): “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
My friends it is so comforting to know that in the sanctity of our mother’s womb we are not alone because God is fashioning one of His special masterpieces of creation – You! He loves you so much and thinks so highly of you that He has a myriad of precious thoughts toward us, for we read: “How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand…” (Psalm 139:17-18).
While we are not yet aware of it, intimacy with God starts in the womb and will continue, for the Christian, not just in this life, but on into eternity. And what really gets me excited is that I get to spend the rest of my life here on planet earth getting to know my Jesus more intimately! And just as God has a book on me, I have a book on God – the Holy Bible, which I cherish greatly, because it’s the main way I get to know my Jesus better.
In closing I would like to leave you with perhaps the most intimate description of how God created you in all the Bible – (Psalm 139-13-18):
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.
Thank you for this Psalm right before Mother’s Day.
Greetings Curt!
Just wanted to thank you for the continuing blessing of these devotions that you post. Along with the others that I read in the morning, they always provide a great start to the day.
Btw, I watched the video of your message from NJ recently. Very good as usual! Always like to listen to you preach the Word!
God bless you both and let’s get in touch to set aside a day so we can meet somewhere! Have a blessed day!
