Have you ever considered how you came into existence? You stand today 40 trillion cells tall. But, at your very beginning, you were only one single cell. At conception sperm and egg cell came together and “you” began. You weren’t much to look at then, but just wait. In just nine short months that one single cell called “you” would multiply into a vast network of trillions of cells. Each cell is unique, and yet independent and all 40 trillion of them live together in harmony.
Your original single cell, must have been one pretty smart customer. For not only did it produce trillions of other cells but it knew when to allow a bone, liver, brain, blood, nerve, and a host of other different types of cells to come into being. It also knew when to let hands, feet, toes, eyes, ears, and many other wonderful members of the human body to also take form. That original cell knew how to do things that no scientist has ever come close to replicating. Not bad for one little cell! And yes an all-powerful God was the mastermind behind this awesome act of transformation.
But as amazing as this act of transformation is, have you ever considered an even more unique act of transformation. For we read in (Hebrews 11:3): “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” In this verse we see that God created the universe out of nothing! In other words, God transformed nothing into everything! Yet, as wonderful as this act of transformation is may I submit to you there is still something that is more wonderful – and that is the transformation of sinners into saints. I love how Danish theologian Søren Kierkegaard stated this: “God creates out of nothing. Wonderful you say. Yes, to be sure, but he does what is still more wonderful: he makes saints out of sinners.”1
In (Ephesians 2:5 TLB) we read: “that even though we were spiritually dead and doomed by our sins, he gave us back our lives again when he raised Christ from the dead…” Since we are clearly spiritually dead we must be made alive by God. In other words, God transforms us at salvation – He brings spiritual life to the dead. My friends I challenge you to find anything more wonderous than being transformed from a vile sinner into a victorious saint of God. Just think, that one original cell called “you” had the power to generate trillions of other cells. And all of them, together as a team, once they invited Jesus into their midst, had the power to transform themselves, thanks to the grace of God, into an eternal existence. What a transformation indeed!
