Lately the Lord has impressed upon my soul more than ever that prayer is the fuel that allows apologetics to ignite and illuminate the soul. Prayer is so important that without it our desire to see souls come to Christ often will not take place. Since, before we come to Christ, we are all dead in our sins, the only way to become alive in Christ is if a miraculous change in our heart takes place. Apologetics may make an impact on a person’s mind but without believing prayer it will never travel to his heart. Prayer is the one key that can unlock a soul from the bondage of sin and shine the light of the gospel into his heart. May the following quotes on prayer help motivate you to make your prayer closet the most important room in your home.1
“Prayer girds human weakness with divine strength, turns human folly into heavenly wisdom, and gives to troubled mortals the peace of God. We know not what prayer can do.” ~ Charles Spurgeon
“The Bible does say, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.’ Preaching, music, the reading of the Word-these things are fine-but they must never override prayer as the defining mark of God’s dwelling.” ~ Jim Cymbala
“Little praying is a kind of make believe, a salve for the conscience, a farce and a delusion.” ~ Edward McKendree Bounds
“If we would pray aright, the first thing we should do is to see to it that we really get an audience with God, that we really get into His very presence. Before a word of petition is offered, we should have the definite consciousness that we are talking to God and should believe that He is listening and is going to grant the thing that we ask of Him.” ~ R. A. Torrey
“The Lord’s Prayer reminds us that God longs for His people to communicate with Him, not just in church on Sunday, but wherever we are and whatever our need.” ~ David Jeremiah
“In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.” ~ John Bunyan
“All great soul-winners have been men of much and mighty prayer, and all great revivals have been preceded and carried out by persevering, prevailing knee-work in the closet.” ~ Samuel Logan Brengle
“Prayer is the greatest of all forces, because it honors God and brings him into active aid.” ~ Edward McKendree Bounds
“We can do nothing without prayer. All things can be done by importunate prayer. It surmounts or removes all obstacles, overcomes every resisting force and gains its ends in the face of invincible hindrances.” ~ Edward McKendree Bounds
“No man is greater than his prayer life.” ~ Leonard Ravenhill
“I would rather teach one man to pray than ten men to preach.” ~ Charles Spurgeon
“Jesus taught that perseverance is the essential element in prayer.” ~ Edward McKendree Bounds
“Prayer is the supreme way to be workers together with God.” ~ Wesley L Duewel
“Don’t ever hesitate to take to [God] whatever is on your heart. He already knows it anyway, but He doesn’t want you to bear its pain or celebrate its joy alone.” ~ Billy Graham
“The greatest thing anyone can do for God and man is pray. It is not the only thing; but it is the chief thing. The great people of the earth today are the people who pray. I do not mean those who talk about prayer; not those who can explain about prayer; but I mean those people who take time and pray.” ~ S. D Gordon
“Remember, Christ’s scholars must study upon their knees.” ~ Charles Spurgeon
“Prayer is the acid test of devotion.” ~ Samuel Chadwick
“The little estimate we put on prayer is evidence from the little time we give to it.” ~ Edward McKendree Bounds
“Prevailing prayer is prayer that pushes right through all difficulties and obstacles, drives back all the opposing forces of Satan, and secures the will of God. Its purpose is to accomplish God’s will on earth. Prevailing prayer is prayer that not only takes the initiative but continues on the offensive for God until spiritual victory is won.” ~ Wesley L Duewel
“Prayer in the sense of petition, asking for things, is a small part of it; confession and penitence are its threshold, adoration its sanctuary, the presence and vision and enjoyment of God its bread and wine.” ~ C. S. Lewis
“No man – I don’t care how colossal his intellect – No man is greater than his prayer life.” ~ Leonard Ravenhill
