Only Jesus Can Satisfy

C. S. Lewis said it so well: “All that we call human history–money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery–is the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.”1

Mankind, down through the centuries, has never truly been able to find real peace, joy, meaning, and happiness, outside of developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. And the reason was profoundly stated by the great 17th century French mathematician and Christian philosopher, Blaise Pascal, who once remarked: “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made know through Jesus Christ.”2

You see, outside of Christ, finding meaning and happiness, is like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole – it just won’t fit. I believe that mankind instinctively knows that there must be something more to life than just the physical dimension, and that is why he invents religion. But the problem with the gods of these various non-Christian religions is that they are man-made and have no power to transform our broken world. For you see a false god is no god at all and, in fact, worshipping these false gods only places us into bondage to an imaginary higher power.

And for the many people who claim to be atheists, with no god to believe in, he places himself as the supreme person in his universe and spends the rest of his life searching for a reason for his existence. Searching every pathway, every byway, overturning every stone, examining every philosophy, and experiencing every feeling, as he comes to the end of his journey, the answer he finds is that none exists!

Sadly, without a belief in a divine Creator the atheist must indeed lead a lonely life. By definition he must believe he has no soul and no immortality. Since he came into existence by chance, and not divine design, any meaning he finds in life is but a by-product of random occurrences. Even the great mysteries of our universe, that cause one to ponder just who we are and why we are here, are a closed corridor of thought to those who place God as something that exists only in one’s imagination.

So whether you believe in a false god or no god at all, neither can satisfy a person who was created in the image of the one true God and for a relationship with Him. And praise the Lord that He has chosen to reveal Himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ. And not only that, but the God of the universe, left us His amazing revelation about Himself – the Holy Bible – for us to meditate on and learn about who Jesus is and just how wonderful a life we can have when we enter into a personal relationship with Christ.

My friends, the only porthole to true peace, joy, meaning, and happiness is Jesus Christ. All other avenues lead to hopelessness, despair, and a life full of regrets!
