Our Awesome World!

Have you ever thought about how awesome a world we live in? I think Paul David Tripp shared this sentiment well: “God created an awesome world. God intentionally loaded the world with amazing things to leave you astounded. The carefully air-conditioned termite mound in Africa, the tart crunchiness of an apple, the explosion of thunder, the beauty of an orchid, the interdependent systems of the human body, the inexhaustible pounding of the ocean waves, and thousands of other created sights, sounds, touches, and tastes—God designed all to be awesome. And he intended you to be daily amazed.”1

But as amazing and awesome as our world is, there is an unseen world of awesome things, that when we contemplate them, can cause us to stand in awe at our great God who created them all. Think of the explosion of life taking place hidden away inside the womb of an expectant mother. Or the fantastically complex way our cells mobilize, inside our bodies, to cause a cut on our skin to form a clot to begin the healing process. And what about the invisible force of gravity that holds our earth in orbit as it revolves around our sun. Finally, have you ever considered that our thoughts, though invisible and weightless, hold the keys to our emotional well-being and ultimately our health. Yes, this unseen world is truly awesome to behold!

However, as wonderous as our visible and invisible world is, the most awe inspiring thing about our universe is our Creator God who made everything there is! His creative power is simply off the charts. Imagine the power God must possess, that in a moment of time, He just spoke the word and our universe came into existence. And on a personal level I stand in awe and supreme adoration that my God and Savior, Jesus Christ, while I was still dead in my sins and transgressions, opened my blind eyes, and restamped my passport from eternal damnation in hell to ultimate glory in heaven!

As a result of this divine transformation, I now wake up each day not only realizing how wonderful a world we live in, but how awesome a God I serve. Like the psalmist David, I too realize that I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

In closing, why not spend a little time reading the following portion from (Psalm 139). I believe it will leave you awestruck!

(Psalm 139)

13 For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
    when I was made in the secret place,
    when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
    all the days ordained for me were written in your book
    before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
    How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
    they would outnumber the grains of sand—
    when I awake, I am still with you.
