Prayer and Salvation

Usually when we think of a miracle, we tend to think of the biblical accounts of Jesus being raised from the dead, Peter walking on water, or God just speaking our universe into existence. But did you know that someone coming to Christ, or salvation, is indeed also a great miracle.

The reason I say that salvation is a miracle is because mankind by nature is first, a sinner who is hopelessly lost. Second, he exists in a spiritually bankrupt state. Third, his eyes are spiritually blind. Fourth, his bondage to sin renders him hopelessly enslaved. Fifth, man, according to (Ephesians 2:1), is dead in trespasses and sin. And sixth, according to (Romans 3:11): “…There is none who seeks after God.” To sum up, mankind is totally depraved, and on his own can’t and will not seek after God.

And while presenting the gospel message to an individual is an essential first step in the salvation process, I believe, that prayer is an essential ingredient in unlocking a person from the six points I shared in the above paragraph. While I freely admit that the link between prayer and salvation is somewhat mysterious and above my paygrade, prayer is the most powerful weapon we have to unshackle man from his hopelessly lost state. R. A. Torrey said it well: “Prayer is the key that unlocks all the storehouses of God’s infinite grace and power.”1

And my friends we need a supernatural power, which can only come from God, to reconcile the mystery of (Romans 3:11), which says: “…There is none who seeks after God,” with the salvation experience. And I believe that persistent, believing prayer is a key supernatural link in the entire salvation process.

To me, sharing the gospel and prayer are the two key essential sides of the same coin that maximizes the chances that a lost sinner can be converted into a child of God!
