Have you ever realized what an amazing privilege we have that at any time of day we can communicate with the Creator of the Universe – Jesus Christ! Reading God’s Word allows us to hear the voice of God, but prayer helps us have sweet fellowship with the Father. And to give you an idea how important prayer is, we need only look at the prayer life of Jesus. For you see Jesus treated prayer as a holy habit and spent many early morning hours praying to His heavenly Father.
My friends prayer is so awesome because it allows us the privilege to hallow the name of our Lord, help build up His Kingdom, and carry out His perfect will. Imagine that God loves us so much and thinks so highly of us, that we have been made His ambassadors to represent Him here on planet earth.
While the Bible is a powerful aid in sharing the gospel, adding believing prayer to our tool kit is the most potent one-two punch in bringing souls into the kingdom. And if Jesus considered prayer as the lifeblood of His relationship with the Father and an essential part of His ministry here on earth, how much so should we follow in His footsteps and make prayer our own holy habit.
To help you see just how much of a blessing and privilege prayer is I pray you would take some time to meditate on the following quotes that highlight various aspects of prayer.1
“Prayer is beyond any question the highest activity of the human soul. Man is at his greatest and highest when upon his knees he comes face to face with God.” ― Martyn-Lloyd Jones
“We tend to use prayer as a last resort, but God wants it to be our first line of defense. We pray when there’s nothing else we can do, but God wants us to pray before we do anything at all. Most of us would prefer, however, to spend our time doing something that will get immediate results. We don’t want to wait for God to resolve matters in His good time because His idea of ‘good time’ is seldom in sync with ours.” ― Oswald Chambers
“I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.” ― Martin Luther
“Don’t forget to pray today because God did not forget to wake you up this morning.” ― Oswald Chambers
“We never know how God will answer our prayers, but we can expect that He will get us involved in His plan for the answer. If we are true intercessors, we must be ready to take part in God’s work on behalf of the people for whom we pray.” ― Corrie Ten Boom
“Prayer does change things, all kinds of things. But the most important thing it changes is us. As we engage in this communion with God more deeply and come to know the One with whom we are speaking more intimately, that growing knowledge of God reveals to us all the more brilliantly who we are and our need to change in conformity to Him. Prayer changes us profoundly.” ― R. C. Sproul
“Groanings which cannot be uttered are often prayers which cannot be refused.” ― C.H. Spurgeon
“If prayer stands as the place where God and human beings meet, then I must learn about prayer. Most of my struggles in the Christian life circle around the same two themes: why God doesn’t act the way we want God to, and why I don’t act the way God wants me to. Prayer is the precise point where those themes converge.” ― Philip Yancey
“Men may spurn our appeals, reject our message, oppose our arguments, despise our persons, but they are helpless against our prayers.” ― J. Sidlow Baxter
“[Jesus] had only three years of public ministry, but He was never too hurried to spend hours in prayer . . . No day began or closed in which He was not in communion with His Father.” ― Billy Graham
“I believe God has heard my prayers. He will make it manifest in His own good time that He has heard me. I have recorded my petitions that when God has answered them, His name will be glorified.” ― George Muller
“I have now concentrated all my prayers into one, and that one prayer is this, that I may die to self, and live wholly to Him.” ― C.H. Spurgeon
“[Prayer] is the link between God’s inexhaustible resources and people’s needs…God is the source of power, but we are the instrument He uses to link the two together.” ― Charles Stanley
“Prayer is the open admission that without Christ we can do nothing. And prayer is the turning away from ourselves to God in the confidence that He will provide the help we need. Prayer humbles us as needy and exalts God as wealthy.” ― John Piper
“Prayer is the most powerful resource we have in this life; yet, many only turn to it as a last resort. When unbelievers pray for repentance of sin and ask for God’s forgiveness, prayer is the spiritual dynamite that obliterates the darkness and despair of a sin-soaked soul.” ― Franklin Graham
“If we are to have our prayers answered, we must give God the glory.” ― Billy Graham
