Anxiety and worry are two of the most common maladies in America today. Fortunately for the Christian the Bible has a drug-free cure for both that work every time no matter what the circumstances you may find yourself in.
In America today anxiety and worry are national pastimes. Americans worry about everything from money and health to our children and the future. Sadly, many Christians worry about the same things. As a result, peace is often forfeited and replaced with all kinds of mental stress and physical ailments.
For the Christian anxiety and worry not only rob us of peace and joy but they disappoints God, because in reality anxiety and worry are sins. Usually anxiety and worry indicate either a lack of faith in God or living with the wrong focus; meaning our main concern is with ourselves rather than living for Christ and His kingdom.
I pray that the following quotes will help you cope with these twin sins of anxiety and worry.1
“Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength.” – Charles Spurgeon
“As you walk through the valley of the unknown, you will find the footprints of Jesus both in front of you and beside you.” – Charles Stanley
“No one can pray and worry at the same time.” – Max Lucado
“The little troubles and worries of life may be as stumbling blocks in our way, or we may make them stepping-stones to a nobler character and to Heaven. Troubles are often the tools by which God fashions us for better things.” – Henry Ward Beecher
“Our lives are full of supposes. Suppose this should happen, or suppose that should happen; what could we do; how could we bear it? But, if we are living in the high tower of the dwelling place of God, all these supposes will drop out of our lives. We shall be quiet from the fear of evil, for no threatenings of evil can penetrate into the high tower of God.” – Hannah Whitall Smith
“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” – Corrie Ten Boom
“The will of God will never take you to where the grace of God will not protect you.” – Bernadette Devlin
“When life gets too hard to stand, kneel.” – Gordon B. Hinckley
“So in times of trouble, don’t give in to your natural reflex of worry. Instead, condition your reflex to pray.” – Greg Laurie
“Worship… until the worry is absorbed into the presence of God.” – Dan Wilt
“Anxiety and fear are cousins but not twins. Fear sees a threat. Anxiety imagines one.” – Max Lucado
“Memorizing the Bible is most important. ‘Thinking God’s thoughts’ will take the place of worried, anxious concerns.” – Billy Graham
“When we allow worries to dominate us, we’re actually saying that God can’t be trusted to take care of us. But He can be trusted!” – Billy Graham
“Joy in the Lord is one of the best preparations for the trials of this life. The cure for care is joy in the Lord.” – Charles Spurgeon
“Let your cares drive you to God. I shall not mind if you have many of them if each one leads you to prayer. If every fret makes you lean more on the Beloved, it will be a benefit.” – Charles Spurgeon
“Cares are numerous and, therefore, let your prayers be as numerous. Turn everything that is a care into a prayer.” – Charles Spurgeon
“Hang all your weight upon the lover of souls now! Do not wait till you get rid of your fears and then go to Him—go now!” – Charles Spurgeon
“The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith, and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety.” – George Müller
“It’s no wonder, that God’s anxiety therapy includes a large, delightful dollop of gratitude. The anxious heart says, ‘Lord, if only I had this, that, or the other, I’d be okay.’ The grateful heart says, ‘Oh, look! You’ve already given me this, that, and the other. Thank you, God.’” – Max Lucado
“Every tomorrow has two handles. We can take hold of it with the handle of anxiety or the handle of faith.” – Henry Ward Beecher
“Worry implies that we don’t quite trust God is big enough.” – Francis Chan
“For some reason, we think of doubt and worry as ‘small’ sins. But when a Christian displays unbelief…or an inability to cope with life, he is saying to the world, ‘My God cannot be trusted,’ and that kind of disrespect makes one guilty of a fundamental error, the heinous sin of dishonoring God. That is no small sin.” – John MacArthur
“Worry is the antithesis of trust. You simply cannot do both. They are mutually exclusive.” – Elisabeth Elliot
“You find no difficulty in trusting the Lord with the management of the universe and all the outward creation, and can your case be any more complex or difficult than these, that you need to be anxious or troubled about His management of it?” – Hannah Whitall Smith
