When it comes to talking about salvation and the Gospel, Christians are blessed to be able to share the best news on planet earth. Billy Graham, in talking about salvation and the Gospel, I believe, has hit on just some of the wonderful blessings giving your heart to Jesus imparts to the Christian:
“Salvation is always ‘good news.’ It is news of God’s love and forgiveness—adoption into His family—fellowship with His people—freedom from the penalty of sin—liberation from the power of sin.”1
“The Gospel shows people their wounds and bestows on them love. It shows them their bondage and supplies the hammer to knock away their chains. It shows them their nakedness and provides them the garments of purity. It shows them their poverty and pours into their lives the wealth of heaven. It shows them their sins and points them to the Savior.”2
Another reason salvation is such good news is that this infinitely valuable gift cost us so little. All the cost and pain were borne by our wonderful God. Oswald Chambers expressed this thought well when he said: “The heart of salvation is the Cross of Christ. The reason salvation is so easy to obtain is that it cost God so much. The Cross was the place where God and sinful man merged with a tremendous collision and where the way to life was opened. But all the cost and pain of the collision was absorbed by the heart of God.”3
One final thought that keeps me humble is the fact that I, a chief of sinners, who had no hope of salvation on my own, was blessed to have a God who loved me so much, that He provided a way out of my bondage to sin through His Son Jesus. (Ephesians 2:1) clearly tells us how hopelessly lost we were when it says: “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.” I know in my life I would never have sought God on my own, yet He opened my blind eyes and wooed me to Himself, showed me how sinful I really was, and His holy Scriptures explained the way of salvation to me. And praise God, one day, 41 years ago, the good news of the Gospel penetrated my heart and transformed me from a sinner to a saint and from bondage to free.
My friends salvation is not just “good news,” it is “great news!”
