Today we are going to explore four more reasons why the biblical account of creation and evolution do not mix.
The fourth reason concerns the creation of Adam. According to the Bible Adam was created fully human and fully an adult man. He did not go through the normal progression of single cell to infant to adult, let alone was he a result of millions of years of evolutionary progress. There is absolutely no way to reconcile an evolutionary framework for the creation of Adam and the biblical account that he was made from the dust of the ground. But some say that the creation account would be a miracle. I agree, the entire creation account is a miracle. But remember that if God could speak the word and bring the entire universe into existence then creating man from the dust of the ground would be a minor miracle in comparison.
Fifth, there are over 100 New Testament references to the book of Genesis and many of them relate to creation. There is not even a hint of an evolutionary framework in any of the New Testament books. Ken Ham, again, makes a cogent case as to why the New Testament writers and Jesus Christ, Himself, believed that the book of Genesis was literal history: “There are many references throughout the New Testament to Genesis, accepting it as literal history – as truth. There are at least 165 passages in Genesis that are either directly quoted or clearly referred to throughout the New Testament. Included in these are more than 100 quotations or direct reference to Genesis, chapters 1 through 11.”1 I don’t know about you but if Jesus believed in a literal interpretation of Genesis then that settles the matter for me.
Sixth, since almost all evolutionists, except theistic evolutionists, are atheists this clearly conflicts with the biblical account right from the first verse in the Bible that says: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1). With no God to believe in evolutionists are stuck believing that “nobody times nothing equals everything.” I leave it up to you whether this evolutionary mantra or (Genesis 1:1) makes more sense. But all kidding aside I believe that it really is impossible for an atheist to even make a good case as to his own belief system as to why there is no God. The late apologist Ron Carlson shows us why this is impossible when he states: “It is philosophically impossible to be an atheist, since to be an atheist you must have infinite knowledge in order to know absolutely that there is no God. But to have infinite knowledge, you would have to be God yourself. It’s hard to be God yourself and an atheist at the same time!”2
And seventh, the evolutionist and those of us who believe in the Bible have a different Holy Trinity. As Christians we strongly believe in one God existing in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. For those who hold to a belief in evolution their holy (or I might add unholy) trinity consists of matter, time, and chance. Clearly if you hold to the evolutionist’s trinity the inevitable conclusion is that you are the chance collision of random molecules that over vast eons of time evolved from amoeba, to mammal, to man or what I like to call from “the goo to the zoo to you.” Or we can accept what the Bible tells us that we are created in the image of God! When you analyze your two options, I contend that it takes far more faith to believe in evolution than creation.
