The Incarnation – Marvelous and Mysterious

sea dawn landscape nature

J. I. Packer in referring to the incarnation once proclaimed: “The Almighty appeared on earth as a helpless human baby, needing to be fed and changed and taught to talk like any other child. The more you think about it, the more staggering it gets. Nothing in fiction is so fantastic as this truth of the Incarnation.”1

Imagine, the Creator of the universe, who is from everlasting to everlasting, chose this most unique way to enter into the dimension of time and space. And the incarnation was God’s marvelous plan to use this tiny baby to later usher in the only hope for lost humanity to find a way back to God. And what is even more amazing and totally beyond our human comprehension is that our Creator had this plan of the incarnation in mind before the foundation and creation of our universe!

You see the incarnation was God’s wonderous plan to enter time and space in human/divine form, and dwell among mankind, sharing the message of repenting from sin and believing that this God/man – Jesus – was truly God. For faith in Jesus, according to Scripture, is our only way to be redeemed from sin, become a child of God, and have our names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, guaranteeing we will spend eternity with Jesus.

Just how marvelous is the incarnation – well consider this: Without the incarnation God would not have been able to find a suitable sacrifice who could die for our sins allowing us to be declared righteous in God’s sight and have our sins atoned for. It was necessary for the incarnation since Jesus had to come in the flesh, (human form) under the Law, to fulfill the Law on our behalf. In addition, a body of flesh and blood, was needed in order for our Lord and Savior to shed His blood for the forgiveness and remission of our sins. Christ, therefore, could not have died if he didn’t come into the world in human form – thus the incarnation. The incarnation, therefore, was necessary to fulfill God’s promise of redemption since Jesus could ultimately sacrifice Himself for humanity’s sins by becoming human.

The mystery of the incarnation is clearly taught in the Bible and is foundational to our understanding the person and work of Jesus Christ. As a result of the incarnation Christ’s dual nature of divinity and humanity makes Christ the perfect Mediator between God and mankind. My friends, the incarnation of Christ is a most awesome Scriptural truth that demonstrates the depths of God’s love for fallen humanity. His willingness to take on human nature and die for us, so that we can live eternally with Him, is the most glorious truth in the universe!!!
