Normally when we think of a revolution, our thoughts turn to the American or French revolution or a time where there is a complete overthrow of a society. But there is another type of revolution that every human being needs to experience if they are to find meaning, peace, and joy in this life. And that is a revolution in our way of thinking. What all of us need is a transformation in our way of thinking from human to supernatural and from unbiblical to biblical.
For you see life consists of a series of trials, pains, and suffering, and a finite endpoint that unless our minds have the proper way of viewing these difficult circumstances and an eternal perspective, we will not be able to cope or handle them.
Take suffering for example. When a heavy trial comes into our lives many people, instead of dealing with the negative circumstances appropriately, turn to alcohol or drugs, get depressed, and some even commit suicide. For the Christian, however, suffering, not only can be a time of triumph, but can allow us to experience peace and joy, as we draw closer to Jesus and learn to use the trial to bring glory to His name. In addition, we can prepare for the ultimate in suffering, death, by understanding that death is only a stepping stone to an eternal life of joy and bliss in the presence of the Lord.
This paradigm shift in thinking is possible only when our minds have been transformed by the power of Jesus and our entire way of thinking is based on the Bible. Pastor John Piper provides us with rich insight here when he shared: “People are not prepared or able to rejoice in suffering unless they experience a massive biblical revolution of how they think and feel about the meaning of life. Human nature and American culture make it impossible to rejoice in suffering. This is a miracle in the human soul wrought by God through His Word.”1
Without Jesus and the Word of God, life is indeed a hopeless journey where suffering makes no sense, is so cruel and unfair, and sadly, death is the final end to a senseless way of existence. My friends when we make the written Word of God – the Bible, and the living Word of God – Jesus, our ultimate go to sources for living, get set for a total revolution in your way of thinking and a joyous journey through life that will never end!
