The Peace which Surpasses All Understanding

In the economy of God there are several verses that share certain aspects of God’s amazing blessings that defy human description. For example, when we read (2 Corinthians 9:15) we see that salvation is referred to as an “indescribable gift.” In (Ephesians 3:19) Paul states that God’s love “surpasses knowledge.” And in (Romans 11:33) Paul describes God’s ways as follows: “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!”

One other incredible gift that God promises is available to all of His children is also of supernatural origin and it concerns the peace of God. We read about this special peace in (Philippians 4:7): “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” The question that one might logically ask is how can we get this wonderful supernatural peace of God? May I share three Scripture verses that I pray will help you always to walk in this marvelous supernatural peace of God regardless of the trials you may have to endure.

Isaiah 26:3

“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”

Here we see that perfect peace comes to those who trust Jesus and keep our minds on our Savior. So often we put our minds on the negative circumstances and not on our all-powerful God who is Lord over all circumstances. So, the next time a negative trial comes your way set your mind on Jesus who promises to work all things for good and the advancement of His kingdom. (Romans 8:28). The more we focus on God’s deliverance and not the situation the more peace we will receive. Focus on God’s perfect character not Satan’s lies and schemes and we will see supernatural peace begin to flood our souls.

Psalm 119:165

“Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.”

If you want great peace I challenge you to fall more in love with the holy Scriptures. As you fall more in love with the Bible you will accrue great wisdom, power to say no to sin, joy unspeakable and full of glory, and great peace. Take time to meditate on the following portion of Scripture from (Psalm 19:7-11) and let reading God’s word become the most exciting part of your day:

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb
.
11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
And in keeping them there is great reward.

I believe the more you get into the Word, the more the Word will get into you and great peace will fill your heart because you will be filling your soul with divine manna from above.

(Philippians 4:6-7)

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

As we trust God for all of our provisions, as we keep our minds on Jesus, and as we read and fall more in love with the Bible we should never forget to talk to God through the awesome vehicle of prayer. When we let God handle all of our cares not only do our burdens lift but peace replaces anxiety and joy becomes our new constant companion. And please don’t forget to fill your prayers with praise and thanksgiving for in so doing you set into motion how much you appreciate the Lord.

My friends we are not equipped to fight our battle with trials by ourselves but with the help of Jesus we will not only always prevail, but worry will vanish since we become more concerned with advancing His kingdom then our own agendas. And the result will be peace which surpasses all understanding because our focus becomes all about being used by God to bring Him glory. If I can leave you with one closing thought, it would be to view trials as opportunities to bring glory to God.
