The moment your father’s sperm cell united with your mother’s egg cell you began to exist in physical form. And approximately nine months later a very special day took place – your very first birthday! An what an amazing day your first birthday was, for not only were you a unique – one-of-a-kind –human being, but you were an imagine bearer of God! Not even the angels in heaven were made in the image of God – but you were! And if that were not special enough, you were created to enter into a personal relationship with your Creator – the God of the universe – Jesus Christ!
Sadly, for most of God’s creation, this unique and marvelous experience of entering into a personal relationship with Jesus never takes place because the sin, in which we are born in, keeps us captive slaves to the God of this world – Satan! And without knowing Jesus, these lost individuals will never get to experience a second amazing day in the life of a person – the day we discover why God allowed us to be born in the first place. I think William Barclay said it so well: “There are two great days in a person’s life – the day we are born and the day we discover why.”1
For most people, the question of why were we born, never can find a satisfactory answer because until we realize that we are sinners that need to be reconciled back to Jesus, we will aimlessly grope in the black darkness of sin never discovering the answer to this most fundamental question of life. Instead, for those sin filled individuals they will spend their entire lives searching for a reason for their existence. Searching every pathway, every byway, overturning every stone, examining every philosophy, and experiencing every feeling, as these lost souls come to the end of their journey, the answer they find is that none exists!
I know for myself I am incredibly thankful that God one day opened my blind eyes and led me to start reading the Bible. And while I had no desire to find God, Jesus had a divine mission to reveal Himself to me and help me discover the reason for my existence. And as I read the Bible, little did I know that the Holy Spirit was speaking to my heart and revealing to me that I was a sinner in need of salvation.
And on October 12, 1981, I finally understood that I was indeed a sinner that needed Jesus to save me from my sin. It was about 11:15 PM, on that wonderful day, and my fellow Christians I think you all can relate, that when the Holy Spirit shines His bright spotlight of conviction on a human heart, there is just no place to hide. So, I got out of my bed and asked the Lord Jesus into my heart, and little did I fully understand at that time, that I was instantly transformed from a sinner into a saint, and from bondage to free.
As I continued to read my Bible it became crystal clear to me that the reason I was born was to enter into a personal relationship with God, to worship and glorify His name, and to enjoy Him forever. And now that the why question has been answered, I can spend the rest of my days praising and glorifying my Lord and enjoying His company forever – and can anything be more wonderful than that!
Thanks for sharing that wonderful conversion experience and giving insight to the unending search of the lost. Prayerfully many will read this and come to faith through knowledge of their origins and purpose of their being. Blessings
