What is Perfect, Sure, Right, Pure, Clean, and True?

We find that the answer is found in (Psalm 19:7-11) which reads:

The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.
They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
Moreover, by them Your servant is warned;
In keeping them there is great reward.

Notice that what the psalmist says is perfect, sure, right, pure, clean, and true are the law, testimony, precepts, commandment, fear, and judgments of the Lord. In other words, it’s the Bible that is perfect, sure, right, pure, clean, and true. And notice again what knowing and living the Scriptures does for us. It restores the soul, makes wise the simple, rejoices the heart, enlightens the eyes, endures forever, and is totally righteous.

In other words, the Bible, according to the psalmist here, is so awesome and amazing that it is more to be desired than gold and much sweeter than honey. And in addition, by following its timeless advice and admonitions, not only will we steer clear of life’s many pitfalls but we will receive incredible rewards now and a retirement plan that is simply out of this world!

My friends the written word of God is so precious because from beginning to end it points to the living word of God – Jesus! (Psalm 119:105) tells us: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” And just as the written word of God is a lamp and a light to our path, we know that Jesus is the great lamp and light of our lives. When we allow Jesus into our hearts He brings peace and joy that nothing this world can offer can supply. He promises to be like a friend that sticks closer than a brother. And He gives us life with purpose and dignity and a certain eternal future that is awaiting us when we pass from death to life.

Our Bible is like a compass that always guides us in the right direction. And Jesus is always there cheering us on each step of the way as we journey through life. He also allows us the wonderful privilege to talk and pray to Him as often as we like. And if that were not enough the Holy Spirit is always there to illuminate the Scriptures to our minds and to comfort our hearts at all times.

Sometimes it is hard to put into words how blessed we are to have a God who loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die for us so that we could truly enjoy life and be rescued from the bondage of sin.

In closing may I ask you to meditate on one of my favorite Bible verses that not only tells you who you are in Christ, but how we are to live for Him. And that verse is (1 Peter 2:9): “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
