In (Psalm 29:2) we read: “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name…” As I was meditating on this verse my mind began to flood with thoughts on how majestic and worthy is our Lord to receive the total glory due His name. May the following four reasons serve as just the tip of the iceberg on why we should ascribe glory to the Lord:
Glorify the Lord because of His omni-nature
Our God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent! He is all powerful. Imagine God just spoke the word and brought the entire universe into existence! He is all-knowing. God knows the past, the present, and the future all simultaneously. Nothing escapes the knowledge of the Lord. And He is present everywhere. Imagine our God is present in the lives of all eight billion human beings and is intimately acquainted with every detail in each of our lives. This omni-nature of the Lord cries out for us to glorify His majestic name!
Glorify the Lord because of His amazing love
Our God manifests a love that is beyond human comprehension. Scripture tells us that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. I know in my own life that I mocked God by believing He didn’t exist. I laughed inwardly at people who were Christians. I never in a million years would have sought after God. And my lifetime of sins, if God did exist, would clearly totally disqualify me from making it to heaven. Yet His love was so awesome, He sent His son Jesus to die for all of my sins, wooed me, when I wouldn’t give Him the time of day, to Himself, and wrote my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life, before I was even born! And not only that, His love is so powerful that He gives me that same ability to now even love and pray for my enemies!
Glorify the Lord because He gave us His Word – The Holy Bible
While we may not be able to physically see God, He left us with the perfect vehicle to talk to and interact with everything He wants us to know about Himself, a book filled with our basic instructions before leaving earth, and the greatest love letter ever written – the Holy Bible! My friends there is absolutely nothing that can compare with the Bible. It guides us on the best path of life, it supplies us with awesome encouragement when we are down, it is the absolute best book on morality, and it gives us glimpses on where we can spent eternity if we have a personal relationship with His son – Jesus Christ!
Glorify the Lord because He allows us to have an eternal relationship with Him
Imagine living a life that never has to end. Imagine living that life in perfect and eternal health. Imagine living forever in eternal bliss and peace. And then imagine spending eternity in the presence of Jesus! Can anything be more wonderful than living in a glorified body giving glory to our Heavenly Father!
So if you are wondering why we should ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name may these four reasons help you realize that spending time glorifying Jesus should not be considered a sacrifice at all, but our sacred duty, and the ultimate privilege and joy in life!
