Letters for Life

Back on August 19, 2020 through August 21, 2020, I shared a three part devotion on the Ethics of Abortion. In this devotional series I presented a strong case on why I believe from a moral, scientific, and religious point of view that life begins at conception. (Psalm 139:14-16) says it so beautifully that it is clear that our Creator was at work in our lives well before birth: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Back in the early 1990’s I had the privilege to meet with my then Congressman from Brooklyn, New York, Charles Schumer. Today, Chuck Schumer is the powerful majority Senate leader from New York State. I met with him to discuss the issue of abortion knowing full well that Mr. Schumer was very pro-abortion. We had a cordial meeting for about 20 minutes in which I shared many pro-life arguments. At the end of the meeting I could see that he still strongly believed in a woman’s right to choose but I prayed that I was able to plant some seeds that life clearly begins at conception.

Just to make sure that I wanted him to know that I was a spokesperson for the unborn I launched a 14 day letter writing campaign. Each letter was from the voice of an unborn baby sharing why abortion was the taking of an innocent life. After sending Charles Schumer 14 letters over a two week period I prayed that the Lord would change his heart. To be honest he never responded back to me on those letters. I pray that the following three actual letters I sent Charles Schumer (printed below) will perhaps inspire you to write similar letters for life to your congressman and senators who are still pro-abortion. Letters are powerful and you too can be a voice for the unborn!

Dear Congressman Schumer:

My name is Pamela Davis. I’m twelve weeks old today. I can’t tie my shoe yet but I love to suck my thumb. I already go to the bathroom by myself, but Aunt Mary told my mom it won’t be too long before she will have to potty train me. Uncle John told dad he found the most adorable crib for me, but my father told him that a crib wouldn’t be necessary since they were planning to abort me next week. Please don’t let them end my life. I was so looking forward to spending my first night home from the hospital surrounded by all my Walt Disney friends.

Sincerely, Baby Pamela

Dear Congressman Schumer:

My name is Jack Morris. I’m sixteen weeks old today. Someone took a picture of me going for a swim yesterday. The amniotic fluid was just a tad warm, but I enjoyed the exercise. I hope to one day try out for the gymnastics team in high school but for now I’m content doing my somersaults inside my very own private training grounds. I heard a rumor that next week my parents were going to withdraw my permit to enter the human race. Please tell me it isn’t true. I had dreams of one day going to medical school to become a baby doctor.

Sincerely, Baby Jack

Dear Congressman Schumer:

My name is Judy Roberts. I’m twenty weeks old today. My mom just brought me back from my five-month checkup and her doctor told her that I appear to have a physical deformity. Despite the fact that I have a very healthy heart that has already recorded over twenty million beats they are thinking of ending my life. If they could only know that my defect is the same one that many other babies are born with – I will be born with-one hand!

Sincerely, Baby Judy

And please don’t forget to pray for Senator Schumer that God would open his eyes to see that life begins at conception and that we all are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made!

Wow! Thank you, Curt! Such a unique and powerful way to consider the gruesome reality of abortion.

  2. It is challenging to pray for those in power who persistently disregard the rights of the unborn. Nevertheless, it is appropriate for us to obey our Lord and not underestimate God’s ability to work in people’s hearts.

The treatment of the unborn is truly abhorrent. I hope that one day, the full horror of abortion will be openly exposed to the public. I believe that when the truth is not suppressed, it can persuade many pro-choice advocates to prioritize the protection of innocent lives.

  3. Kenyon Ledford says:

Those sure give you pause! I think schumer is a vampire. I only pray him and his ilk have their eyeas opened to their evil, I have such a hard time praying for enemies. I know that doesn’t gladden God’s heart but…
