Prayer – The Greatest Show of Love We Can Share

blue sea under blue sky

There are many ways we can show our love for another person. Buying a gift for someone, helping a friend with financial aid when they are in a bind, and volunteering at a soup kitchen are just some of the tangible ways we can show our love for relatives, friends, and even strangers.

But one way we can also demonstrate our love for another person, which you may not have thought of, is to pray for them. I think Arthur W. Pink is spot on when he said: “The measure of our love for others can largely be determined by the frequency and earnestness of our prayers for them.”1

Giving of our time, talent, and treasury are often important acts of love but the more I read and re-read Pink’s observation, the more I realized that praying regularly and earnestly for another person may be the greatest act of love we can show them.

I believe that praying for the well-being of another person daily is one of the highest forms of true commitment we can make on behalf of another person. And after all true love is all about true commitment. Praying daily for a fellow Christian to discover God’s will for their life, and then walking in it, is a wonderful way to show them that you care greatly for their walk with the Lord. And praying daily for the salvation of a non-believer shows just how committed you are to their eternal well-being.

To pray daily for someone is not easy business. It takes discipline and a great heart of compassion and Satan will do everything in his power to prevent you from this endeavor because he knows how powerful prayer is.

Loving others spiritually through our prayers may not always be seen by those we say we love, but rest assured that God will be working in the background to bring rich blessings on the people we lift up to Him. I challenge you, if you say you love someone, then give them the greatest gift and demonstration of love – prayer!
