Satan’s Three Big Lies – Part II

In today’s devotion we will examine a second big lie of Satan.

Lie #2 – Truth is relative.

Have you ever heard people say that there is no such thing as absolute truth? Sadly, in our postmodern culture Satan has managed one of his greatest lies and that is that all truth is relative. Today we live in a worldview called relativism. Moral absolutes like good and evil are fast becoming outdated and even reversed by a society that loves to suppress the truth instead of acknowledging it. For (Romans 1:18-19) tells us: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.”

According to Cameron Buettel, “In addition to being an assault on the nature of truth, relativism is an idolatrous lie. It sets man up as the sovereign arbiter of what will be true for him. It removes every external objective standard—especially the enduring truths God has revealed in His Word.”1

Fortunately, we as Christians know that we do have an absolute standard of truth – The Bible. God is the source of all truth. His Word is the universal absolute on all matters and we as Christians must consider His absolute truth as non-negotiable. The moment we take God out of the equation as the eternal source of all truth society becomes chaotic and eventually breaks down.

Even the most ardent relativists know in their hearts that their belief system is a lie. When pressed they will acknowledge that there indeed are absolutes such as, 1 + 1 = 2, gravity, and parallel lines never meet.

As our world continues to drift into the fantasy of relativism Christians are the only people that can break the shackles of those whose “suppress the truth.” We read in (John 8:32): “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” The Gospel of Jesus is the only way for the blind eyes of relativists to be opened and to set them free. We live in an all out battle for the truth and our role as Christians is to never compromise the truth but to boldly proclaim it wherever we go!
