The Bible is not just a book but it is an amazing treasure to be cherished, read, studied, and meditated upon every day. Owning a Bible is like possessing a treasure map that can lead you to the most treasured thing in the universe – knowing Jesus Christ. And once you really get to know Jesus the Bible will then become your, basic instructions before leaving earth manual, and your eternal traveling companion.
As you start your treasure hunt into the pages of the Bible you will find nuggets of wisdoms, precious and magnificent promises, joy unspeakable and full of glory, peace like a river, and the opportunity to fellowship with the Creator of the universe now and forever. All the riches that our world can offer, all the pleasures of life, all the personal fame and power, and all the praises of men are not worthy to be compared with the priceless treasure of knowing Jesus Christ. For you see deep down in one’s soul we are all wired to have a connection with God that can only be satisfied when we meet the Savoir – Jesus.
For Jesus is the key that unlocks all of the precious treasures contained in the pages of Scripture. Without this key the great promises of the Bible will remain unfulfilled, the joy and peace that we all want will always elude us, and the gift of eternal life will be forfeited. But once Jesus becomes your Lord and Savior get ready to go on the journey of a lifetime into the fabulous pages of the Bible.
With the Holy Spirit acting as our tour guide and the great illuminator of Scripture, let’s take a brief tour into viewing just a few of the many wonderful verses of the Bible.
In (Psalm 19:7-11) we read:
“The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover, by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.”
In the above passage the word of God is said to be perfect, sure, right, pure, clean, and true. Not only that but the word warns us and rewards us. It tells us what happens when we choose to disobey its instructions as well as what rewards we will receive when we obey its precepts.
(Proverbs 3:13-15) tells us:
“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding;
For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.”
In the pages of Scripture, we discover that true wisdom comes from following the instructions and advice in the Bible’s 66 books. And as the above passage shares nothing can compare with wisdom.
In (Psalm 119:162) the psalmist proclaims: “I rejoice at Your word As one who finds great treasure.” And just what is this treasure? Well, part of this treasure is the forgiveness of our sins, a peace which passes all understanding, joy in abundance, the realization that life has a purpose, a manual on how to live right, hope for a bright tomorrow, and eternal life.
The Bible and its message about the kingdom of heaven have been referred to as a “pearl of great price.” (Matthew 13:45-46) shares: “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Even when persecutions come from our desire to make Christ known, rest assure that we will be accruing great rewards in heaven for we read: “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:11-12).
One last stop on our tour takes us to the portal called eternal life. I love what it says in (John 17:3) concerning eternal life: “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” In this verse we see that eternal life is the present reality of knowing Jesus Christ and the future certainty of spending time in the new earth for all eternity in the presence of Christ.
In closing I challenge you to read and meditate on (Psalm 16:11). It’s what I call a triple blessing verse and it declares what we can expect to receive as we read our Bible and fall more in love with its Author – Jesus Christ: “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
