The Bible – The Treasure Seeker Book

As a young teenager, I was fascinated by those TV shows that showed people searching the waters for buried treasure. Now as a Christian for almost 45 years I myself am fascinated as I do my own treasure seeking as I read the Holy Bible. For you see, even though I have read the entire Bible many times, I still know that there are hidden treasures of wisdom, insights into the character of God, and undiscovered joy that can only be found by diligently seeking the deeper meanings of the Scriptures.

I love how A. W. Pink talks about this great treasure hunt when he shared: “The Bible is no lazy man’s book! Much of its treasure, like the valuable minerals stored in the bowels of the earth, only yield up themselves to the diligent seeker.”1

While I don’t always discover deep nuggets of new truth when I read the Scriptures, since I am so familiar with much of them, every now and then I see biblical truth in a new light – and when I do, great joy fills my soul because while I am a treasure seeker, I am really a truth seeker. The reason I equate treasure with truth is because knowing real truth about God, myself, eternity, and a host of other important subjects, brings me amazing joy!

Another reason I cherish the Bible, as a treasured possession, is because no other book ever written has the ability to guide me on the best path of life, provide me with divine wisdom, help me to obtain perfect peace, and shower me with an incredible array of promises that I can always count on coming true as I walk in the will of God.

But this lifestyle requires one to study and meditate diligently on the Scriptures as well as asking the Holy Spirit to illuminate biblical truth to our soul. And if one does this, be prepared to experience the greatest joy I know of – to draw closer to Christ and be given the wonderful opportunity to use what we have learned to glorify Jesus!

May I humbly challenge you to read and study the Bible as a treasure and truth seeker. And by all means ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate the Scriptures to your heart in your quest to fall more in love with Jesus!
