Transformations – Part II

Back in medieval times, the alchemist tried to turn lead into gold. This was his ultimate dream. But to our original cell called “you” this would be like mere child’s play.

Take an ordinary apple and bite into it. Swallow and just sit back and marvel over what our bodies now do. Immediately hundreds of enzymes begin to come up to that bit of apple and utterly transform that innocent looking apple into something no Picasso could ever dream of doing. The very molecules of that apple will be stripped from it and carried away throughout our entire body. Trillions of other cells will in turn take what they need and pass the rest on to their brother and sister cells. This amazing scavenger hunt somehow was originally orchestrated by that one single cell, which back in history was to become “you.” That one single cell – what a powerhouse it must have been to have generated this immense array of different cells.

But wait one minute! Some of our friendly apple has been specifically designated for a special mission. While the other cells scurry to stake claim on their “apple turf,” they somehow know not to touch that part of the apple which our mind has laid prior claim to. Somehow minute parts of our little apple will be transformed into the matter and energy needed to fuel the furnace of our mind. That little apple will actually allow us to think! But what is thinking, except one thought connected to another thought. That apple has, through some miraculous process, been transformed into human thoughts – what a transformation indeed!

But as I mentioned in yesterday’s devotion, there exist two constants in our universe. The incredible interactions occurring in our minds, bodies, and universe represent the first one – which is change. The second constant is God. You and I, our planet, and our universe are all creations of that master Creator that always was, is, and will forever be – God!

It is not evolution, but God that brought everything into existence. To put our faith in a theory which states that we have evolved over the past 4 ½ billion years from single cell creatures (like amoebas), which in turn came about by the chance collision and combination of molecules, which then in turn gradually evolved by the continual random recombination of molecules, into who we are today, is truly “blind” faith. Only God could have worked the miracles of creation – not misguided molecules. Not only has God been the guiding force behind the molecules which He has molded into making us the masterpieces of creation who we are, but He loves us with an everlasting love!

God loves us so much that He gave all of us a free will to decide if we will serve Him or not. But back in the beginning of our human existence, our first ancestors, Adam and Eve, disobeyed God by eating from the one tree in the garden He said they must not eat from. As a result they sinned against God.

We know that God is a holy God and hates sin. Unfortunately when Adam and Eve sinned, we inherited their sinful nature. Man has been a sinner ever since and sadly lost his fellowship with his creator. But God still loves us and has a wonderful plan for our lives. In His infinite love, mercy, and wisdom God has allowed us to re-establish our lost fellowship with Him. The big question is just how can sinful man regain a relationship with a holy God?

Thanks to the amazing grace of God, He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to earth, to die in our place as a substitute for our sins, by presenting His body as a sacrifice for us. His death on the cross paid the penalty for all of our sins – past, present, and future.

The Bible says in (John 3:16): “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” God only asks us to repent of our sins and accept His son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior. When we do this we are completely cleansed from our sins and regain our fellowship with God. But our free will must make this decision through faith. When we do, we will never die, but have eternal life.

Just think, that one original cell called “you” had the power to generate trillions of other cells. And all of them, together as a team, once they invited Jesus into their midst, had the power to transform themselves, thanks to the grace of God, into an eternal existence. What a transformation indeed!

Yes my friends the journey has just begun.
