We Must Sound the Alarm

When a building gets on fire it is critical that we sound the alarm to warn people to get out immediately and flee to safety. However, in the spiritual realm we sadly often fail to warm people of the grave danger they are in because of the sin they are living in. And just as the fire department uses water to fight fire, we must share the gospel as the only way to combat sin and save a world that is so steeped in sin.

Billy Graham said it so well: “You and I, God’s ambassadors, are called to sound the warning, to call sinners to repentance, to point the way to peace with God and the hope that is in Christ.”1

My friends, as Billy Graham stated we are, as Christians, ambassadors of Christ. And as such, we are called to sound the alarm and share the only cure for sin – which is the gospel of Christ. Unlike a fire that can lead to death, the consequences of dying in our sins leads to eternal death and banishment to an eternal hell. With the stakes so high we must always be alert to share the message of Jesus to rescue the perishing! I think actor Kirk Cameron shared it so well when he said: “If you had the cure to cancer wouldn’t you share it? … You have the cure to death … get out there and share it.”2

May I implore you to ask God to develop within you a passion for souls. I believe that outside of worshipping Jesus the most important thing in our lives should be to share the good news of Christ to a lost and heading for hell generation.

In closing, I leave you with a quote from David Brainerd, who once said: “I care not where I go, or how I live, or what I endure so that I may save souls. When I sleep I dream of them; when I awake they are first in my thoughts.”3 May this be the cry of our hearts each day of our lives!
