You Are a Masterpiece! – Part I

Usually when we hear the term masterpiece we think of some great work of art. But have you ever considered that when God made you He created a unique masterpiece far more special and valuable than any treasured and priceless painting. If God can change caterpillars into butterflies, sand into pearls and coal into diamonds just think of the awesome transformation that took place in the nine short months you spent in your mother’s womb.

While changing a lowly caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly is a marvel of nature, it pales in comparison to what God has done in changing you from that original single cell at conception called, “You,” into a 30 trillion cell human being at birth. My friends please travel with me for a few moments into discovering the greatest masterpiece God ever created – “You.”

At conception you physically began, although you always existed in the mind of God even before our universe came to be. But at conception God placed in your original single cell everything you would need, except the nutrients from your mother, to later divide and multiply into a 30 trillion cell human being so amazing that nothing in this universe, but God, could rival you as a marvel of exquisite beauty and complexity.

Even though he declared himself an atheist near the end of his life, Linus Pauling, who won the 1954 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, once remarked: “Just one living cell in the human body is, more complex than New York City”1 Just what would cause one of the greatest scientists of the twentieth century to acknowledge the amazing complexity of a human cell yet reject the God who made it, is unknown, but Pauling, nonetheless, stood in awe at the dazzling complexity of the human cell.

But the word complexity, in my opinion, when referring to a human cell, does not do justice to just what is contained in your original single cell at conception. For you see contained within that one original single cell called, “You,” I contend, deep within its mysterious makeup, it possessed more knowledge than all the accumulated knowledge of mankind from the history of its beginning until now! But Curt, you might say, you can’t be serious. Well, in tomorrow’s Part II of this devotion, I plan to back up this claim and show you why you are indeed the ultimate masterpiece of creation!
