Let’s Be Thankful for the Things We Take for Granted

My good friend Danny W. suggested I do a devotion on being thankful for the little things in life. As I got to thinking about this topic I realized just how many blessings we have from God that we just take for granted and rarely give God thanks. May I suggest that the next time you are going through a trial, why not pause for a minute and go into blessing mode and take time to give God thanks for some of the amazing blessings He has given us. Back on November 7, 2020 I did a devotion called, Blessing Mode. I pray that you will take a look at this devotion and put the practice of going into “blessing mode” a part of your daily routine.

Below are five things we should give a shout out to God for allowing us the privilege to possess.

Eyesight (1)

The next time you open your eyes just marvel at all of the beautiful sights around you. Then close your eyes and imagine that you can’t see any of them for the rest of your life. Sight is a gift and for 30 million people in our world today they will never be able to see the things we so often take for granted because they are totally blind. So why not thank God daily for this incredible gift of sight!

Water (2)

In many third-world countries today clean drinking water is hard to come by. We in America have delicious and safe tap water as well as bottled water. Water is essential for life so, let’s thank God for making it so safe and plentiful.

Your cell phone (3)

Did you ever realize that this essential device is so new on the scene. Fifty years ago, there were no cell phones. We often take for granted the incredible amount of things we can do with our cell phones. Have you ever taken the time to reflect what a blessing and convenience they are? Why not thank God for the great men of science that have made this invention so accessible to you and me.

The Bible (4)

The Bible is the sourcebook for getting to know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Did you know that in many countries today this precious book is either banned or burned – yet we have the incredible privilege to possess our very own Bible. Not only that, but hundreds of millions of people don’t even have the Bible translated into their native languages. Why not take a little time to thank God for making the Bible so accessible and plentiful.

America (5)

Despite all of its flaws, America is still the greatest country in the world to live in. It would take all day to list the many blessings that being an American citizen brings with it. I leave it up to you to make up your own list of cherished blessings that being an American affords us. But remember as you list these blessings be careful to thank God for each and every one.

Fostering an attitude of gratitude to our Creator will not only make your day more blissful and peaceful but it will help you take the focus off of your problems and place it on where it really should be – on your blessings – which are so bountiful!
