Mother Teresa Quotes About Abortion

Mother Teresa was one of the gentlest and most compassionate women of the twentieth century. Yet when it came to discussing abortion she was totally bold and fearless in letting world leaders know how evil a practice it is. In fact, while accepting the Nobel Peace Prize, she told an international audience: “Millions are dying deliberately by the will of the mother. And this is what is the greatest destroyer of peace today. Because if a mother can kill her own child – what is left but for me to kill you and you kill me?”1

Mother Teresa, because of her amazing humanitarian work in India, grew to international fame and used this world-wide fame to become one of the most outspoken opponents of abortion. To Mother Teresa abortion was not a political or religious issue but something that stood at the very heart of what it means to be human.

I pray that the following quotes made by Mother Teresa on the issue of abortion will let you see why we as Christians must never compromise on being pro-life; no matter how much flack we get.2

Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love but to use violence to get what they want.

Abortion is murder in the womb…A child is a gift of God. If you do not want him, give him to me.

The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion.

“And if we can accept that a mother can kill her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?”

We must not be surprised when we hear of murders, killings, of wars, or of hatred…If a mother can kill her own child, what is left but for us to kill each other?

Many people are concerned with children of India, with the children of Africa where quite a few die of hunger, and so on. Many people are also concerned about the violence in this great country of the United States. These concerns are very good. But often these same people are not concerned with the millions being killed by the deliberate decision of their own mothers. And this is the greatest destroyer of peace today- abortion which brings people to such blindness.

Abortion kills twice. It kills the body of the baby and it kills the conscience of the mother. Abortion is profoundly anti-women. Three quarters of its victims are women: Half the babies and all the mothers.

It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish.

There are two victims in every abortion: a dead baby and a dead conscience.

Human rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human being’s entitlement by virtue of his humanity. The right to life does not depend, and must not be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or sovereign. … You must weep that your own government, at present, seems blind to this truth.

Please don’t kill the child. I want the child. Please give me the child. I am willing to accept any child who would be aborted, and to give that child to a married couple who will love the child, and be loved by the child. From our children’s home in Calcutta alone, we have saved over 3,000 children from abortions. These children have brought such love and joy to their adopting parents, and have grown up so full of love and joy!

By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems.

How can there be too many children? That is like saying there are too many flowers.

America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men.

Any country that accepts abortion is the poorest of the poor.”

  1. She also said “the country that accepts abortion will not survive” Perhaps that’s why the US is not mentioned in Revelation….

  2. Kendra Michelle says:

I have a great respect for this woman’s life work, her compassion, and dedication. However, no one is perfect, and no one can be right 100% of the time. In my opinion, these quotes indicate she had a lower level of understanding of God than she may be credited with. I absolutely mean no disrespect by that statement. Her words do not take away from all the good she put into the world. The bible is moral and spiritual instruction covering many topics such as sin, Judgement, condemnation, and a host of others. I believe if you are blessed with a platform and influence you must be mindful of what you put into the world.
“For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” John 3:17.
“That if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things.” 1 John 3:20
I did some research on abortion for a blog I wrote regarding ethics and morality of designing life. I concluded that there is a better method for eradicating abortion than outlawing it. Lean not on your own understanding. Pride is what caused the most beautiful and faithful angel in heaven to fall.
