Our Supernatural Heart

While every living human being has a beating heart only the Christian has a supernatural heart. Let me explain. Our hearts are an amazing organ. Most people associate a beating heart with life. And since science has shown us that a human heart begins to beat at about three weeks after conception, this fact alone, should show the pro-choice camp why abortion should always be illegal. And if a person lives to 70 years-old their heart will have past the two billion beat mark!

However, while everything about a beating heart indicates a person is physically alive the fact of the matter is that all of us are born spiritually dead. (Ephesians 2:1-5) makes this very clear: “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.” Yes, we are born dead in sin and transgression and in desperate need of a new heart.

But not just any heart will do. Since we are totally dead in our sins the only heart that can revive us from our spiritual death is a supernatural heart. Since the unbeliever is spiritually dead He has no ability in and of himself to accept Christ into his heart, let alone even understand the gospel message. So, the only way he can believe the gospel message is if God does a supernatural work in his heart. And that is exactly what God does – He gives us a new supernatural heart.

Even though we know that sinful man suppresses the truth about God (Romans 1:18-19), and on his own would never seek after God, he is still made in the image of God and can be reached and restored back into a relationship with Jesus. However, in order to accomplish this restoration radical spiritual surgery by the Father is necessary. Our desperately wicked heart (Jeremiah 17:9) needs more than just reformation it needs transformation. And the only remedy for our dead spiritual condition is a heart transplant – we need a brand new heart. Fortunately, God has provided the surgical means for we read in (Ezekiel 36:26): “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

So, we see that all believers in Christ come to the Savior in a supernatural way, with a new supernatural spiritual heart. And just why God would choose us for this salvation and heart surgery my friends is a supernatural mystery. And rather than try to understand this divine mystery, I choose to just praise Jesus for my new heart and serve Him with my whole heart.
