As a child I used to dream of one day mining for lost treasures. Now as a Christian I have the joy of fulfilling this dream every time I open my Bible. And just what are these treasures is beautifully describes in this quote from Lee Roberson: “If you are a child of God, know that every promise in the Bible is yours. The Bible is a gold mine, waiting for someone to take out its riches.”1
My friends, have you ever viewed the promises of God as treasures to mine for? And have you ever realized, that if you are a child of God, every promise in the Bible, as Roberson stated is ours? Our job as believers is to find these promises and actualize them in our lives. Let’s take a look at a few of these promises and see why they are indeed treasures.
(Isaiah 26:3) says: “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” God promises us perfect peace as we fix our minds on Jesus, even amidst the storms of life.
(Psalm 50:23) tells us: “Whoever offers praise glorifies Me…” I love this promise because it tells me that whenever I choose to praise the Lord I get the incredible opportunity to glorify the name of Jesus – and there is nothing more wonderful than this.
(Isaiah 41:10) boldly proclaims: “ Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” What an amazing promise to know that we need never fear for our great God always has our back.
(Deuteronomy 31:8) says: “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” When we realize that our great God is always with us it should serve as a great encouragement to our souls.
(Matthew 11:28-29) tells us: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Imagine, no matter how heavy a burden we may be carrying, when we come to Jesus, He promises us twice in these verses in give us rest for our souls.
These are just five examples of the literally hundreds of promises contain in the Holy Scriptures. Our job is to mine for them as gold – to unearth them – and to claim them as our own! Yes, my friends, the Bible is indeed a gold mine, waiting for someone to take out its riches!
