And since the Holy Spirit guided men in penning the sacred words of Scripture, we should expect that the Bible is not just another book, but it is the greatest story ever told and God’s divine love letter to us. While the Bible was completed 2,000 years ago it is totally relevant for today’s fast paced culture. Its time honored wisdom is still giving us the needed direction on how to best live a joyful and successful life. Finally, since the Bible contains God’s words they can never be destroyed for we read in (Isaiah 40:8): “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
My friends when you read the Bible you are embarking on the journey of a lifetime with the Creator of the universe acting as your tour guide. And when you let Jesus become the captain of your soul the Holy Spirit enters your very being and becomes the great illuminator of the Scriptures. Page after page of the finest distilled wisdom can be appropriated by any believer to help them navigate even through the toughest of our modern day problems. But what really gets me excited about the Bible is, as we read it, we find that it is chockfull of precious and magnificent promises that, as Christians, we can appropriate to our lives if we are willing to trust and obey God.
The Bible is our lifelong companion that points us always to Jesus our lifelong Savior and best friend. And the more we read this amazing book the closer and more intimate we can be with Jesus. I don’t know about you but there is nothing I’d rather do than get to know Jesus better. The great French philosopher and mathematician, Blaise Pascal, once said that everyone is born with a spiritual vacuum that only Jesus Christ can fill. Reading the Bible and communing with Jesus can not only fill your cup but it can fill it to overflowing!
Christian, if you aren’t reading your Bible every day, then you are missing out on the journey of a lifetime. In life, there are few things more pleasurable than sitting down with a good book and when it’s the Bible you will have chosen the very best book! Read it, study it, and mediate on its verses and I guarantee, you will fall more in love with the Bible’s Author – Jesus Christ!
