The Joy of Worship

Worshipping Jesus. What a privilege. What a responsibility. What an amazing generator of sheer joy! As a Christian have you ever thought about why true worship of Jesus is such a delightful activity? Perhaps Nancy Leigh DeMoss can help us here with her wonderful quote: “Worship is a believer’s response to God’s revelation of Himself. It is expressing wonder, awe, and gratitude for the worthiness, the greatness, and the goodness of our Lord. It is the appropriate response to God’s person, His provision, His power, His promises, and His plan.”1

There is so much to unpack in this quote that brings true joy to my heart every time I read it. For example, when I think about the greatness and goodness of Jesus I can only respond with wonder, awe, and gratitude. And I believe that the more we meditate on who Jesus is and what He has done for us, how can we not get lost in the joy of it all.

Or think about all of the promises Jesus gives us – forgiveness of sin, eternal life, and the incredible privilege to talk with the Creator of the universe whenever we want, being just a few of them. How can we not experience joy when we contemplate these incredible blessings.

I could go on and on about why true worship and joy are in reality two sides of the same coin. Why not take a few minutes to re-read Nancy Leigh DeMoss’ quote a few times and just meditate on each word. And after you do this I challenge you not to stand in total awe at the privilege and joy of worshipping our Lord and Savior.

I don’t know about you but when I think about His person, His provision, His power, His promises, and His plan not only am I filled with awe, but I am totally blown away that I, a mere mortal, can have a personal relationship with the Lord of the universe – and that it will last for eternity! If this doesn’t give you total joy I don’t know what will.

Why not take some time right now to worship Jesus and just get lost in the sheer joy that follows!

Wonderful Dwvotional message Curt. I hope you approve that I borrow elements to share at my nursing home presentation this Sunday. A great prequel message for Resurrection Day. Thanks and God bless! Peter
