In our world today sadly the only Bible that most people will read is the lives of the Christians they come in contact with. Alexander MacLaren said it well when he commented: “The world takes its notions of God from the people who say that they belong to God’s family. They read us a great deal more than they read the Bible. They see us; they only hear about Jesus Christ.”1
As such, it is imperative as ambassadors for Christ that we represent our Savior in the best light possible. While the Scriptures gives us a wonderful picture of just who Jesus is and just how much He loves mankind, this firsthand account of His life will often never be examined by most people, since they never read the Bible. So that’s where we come in. The more we mirror Christ’s speech, behavior, and attributes to those we come in contact with, especially on a regular basis, the more they will either want to know about this amazing God we serve, stand convicted of their own shortcomings, or suppress the truth that they know in their heart about how sinful they really are.
I believe our conduct and character must be above reproach if we want to impact the world for Jesus. As we manifest a lifestyle of integrity, a truly caring heart, speech that is seasoned with salt and light, and present the clear gospel message, we will prove effective ambassadors for Christ and hopefully be given the great honor to lead some to Christ. And my friends what an honor it is to be a soul winner for the Lord. I absolutely love how D. L. Moody put it when he said: “There is no greater honour than to be the instrument in God’s hands of leading one person out of the kingdom of Satan into the glorious light of Heaven.”2
My sincere prayer for each of my readers as we begin 2024 is that we live our lives with so much joy and peace because of our walk with the Lord that we would become reflectors of the wonderful light of Jesus to a world filled with so much darkness.
