Why We Should Never Be Afraid of an Unknown Future

Let’s face it since no human being can know with certainty the future, sometimes this uncertainty can make us fearful of what might lie before us tomorrow. While it certainly would be nice to know in advance how the decisions, we make today will turn out tomorrow, this isn’t how life works. There is always an element of uncertainty, but praise God as Corrie Ten Boom shared: “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”1

How comforting it is to know that our awesome God knows the future perfectly and according to (Romans 8:28): “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” So, if we are trusting Jesus for our future and lining up with His will, we can have great confidence that there is no need to fear the future since God has our back.

Not only that But God tells us in the Bible that He is the only one that can state future events before they happen. For we read in (Isaiah 46:9-10): “…I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done…” My friends there is no one else who can accurately tell you what’s going to happen either tomorrow or centuries in advance than Jesus.

As Christians we can live our lives with excitement and anticipation that even though we don’t know what will happen with certainty in the future we can place our trust in Jesus who has a wonderful plan in the future for us. Our job is to stay in God’s will and let Jesus work out His perfect future plans for us. As Corrie Ten Boom said earlier we can choose to focus on an unknown future and be fearful or we can focus on our known God – Jesus – and relax in the knowledge that God is going to work out everything according to His perfect divine plan.

May I leave you with one final thought. Since only Christians can know with absolute certainty our eternal future – eternal life with Jesus – why not spend more time meditating on this eternal thought rather than worrying on what may or may not happen tomorrow. Even if tomorrow doesn’t turn out exactly as we would want it, God can still get glory from the outcome, and to me that is something to be thankful for. Our future is eternally secure in Christ and that is one thing that Christian you can take to the bank!
